VoiceCenter includes a built-in browser softphone powered by SIP.js. It runs directly in your browser with no software installation required. This page covers setup, the dial pad interface, and all available call controls.

Requirements

Before using the browser phone, ensure you have:

RequirementDetails
Supported browserChrome, Edge, or Firefox (latest two versions). Safari is supported but may require additional microphone permissions.
MicrophoneA working microphone or headset. USB headsets are recommended for best audio quality.
Browser permissionsMicrophone access must be allowed for the VoiceCenter domain.
ExtensionAn extension assigned to your user account by your administrator.
NetworkA stable internet connection. WebRTC requires UDP connectivity; strict corporate firewalls may need configuration.

Getting Started

  1. Allow microphone access

The first time you use the browser phone, your browser asks for microphone permission. Click Allow. If you previously denied it, go to your browser's site settings and enable microphone access for VoiceCenter.

  2. Open the softphone

Click the floating dial pad button in the bottom-right corner of any page. The softphone panel opens.

  3. Check the connection indicator

The softphone shows a connection status indicator:

    • Green -- Connected and ready for calls
    • Yellow -- Connecting or reconnecting
    • Red -- Disconnected. Try refreshing the page.
  4. Make or receive calls

Use the keypad to dial a number, or wait for incoming calls to ring.

Keep the tab open

The browser phone requires an active VoiceCenter tab to receive incoming calls. The tab can be in the background, but closing it disconnects the softphone. Notifications ring even when the tab is not focused.

The Dial Pad

The dial pad provides a standard telephone keypad layout:

  • Number keys (0-9) -- Enter the destination number
  • Star (*) and hash (#) -- For DTMF tones during calls
  • Backspace -- Delete the last digit
  • Call button (green) -- Start the call
  • End button (red) -- Hang up an active call

You can also type numbers directly with your keyboard instead of clicking the on-screen buttons.

Call Controls

During an active call, the following controls are available:

Mute

Toggles your microphone on and off. When muted, the other party cannot hear you but you can still hear them. The mute button shows a visual indicator when active.

Hold

Places the call on hold. The other party hears hold music (if configured). You can take the call off hold at any time by clicking the hold button again.

While a call is on hold, you can make a second call for a consultation. Use the transfer function to connect the parties afterward.

Transfer

Transfers the active call to another destination.

Blind transfer -- The call is immediately sent to the target number or extension. You are disconnected as soon as the transfer initiates.

Attended transfer -- You call the target first, speak with them, and then complete the transfer. Both parties are connected and you are removed from the call.

  1. Click the Transfer button

During an active call, click the Transfer button.

  2. Enter the destination

Type the extension number or external phone number to transfer to.

  3. Choose transfer type

Select Blind Transfer to send immediately, or Attended Transfer to speak with the recipient first.

DTMF Keypad

Opens the numeric keypad during a call for sending DTMF tones. Use this when navigating automated phone menus (IVR) on the far end.

Audio Settings

  • Use a USB headset for the best experience. Built-in laptop microphones often cause echo.
  • Close other applications that use the microphone (video conferencing, music) before starting calls.
  • If you experience one-way audio, check that your firewall allows WebRTC UDP traffic.
