Making Calls
How to make outbound, internal, and click-to-call calls in VoiceCenter.
VoiceCenter supports several ways to make calls -- manual dialing, click-to-call from contacts, and extension-to-extension internal calls. All outbound calls go through fraud-limit and blocked-destination checks before connecting.
Before You Start
Make sure:
- Your extension is set up by your administrator (check PBX > Extensions).
- The browser phone is connected (the floating dial pad icon should show a green indicator).
- You have allowed microphone access in your browser.
Manual Dialing
Open the dialer
Click the floating dial pad button in the bottom-right corner of any page, or navigate to Voice > Dialer.
Enter the number
Type the destination number using the on-screen keypad or your keyboard. Use the full international format including country code (e.g., +1 555 123 4567).
Click Call
Press the green call button. VoiceCenter requests a voice token and places the call through the carrier.
Wait for connection
The dialer shows the call state: ringing, connected, or failed. Once connected, the call timer starts.
Click-to-Call
When browsing call logs, contacts, or other pages that display phone numbers, you can click any phone number link to start a call instantly. The browser phone opens with the number pre-filled and initiates the call.
Extension-to-Extension Calls
Internal calls between team members do not go through the carrier and are free.
Open the dialer
Click the floating dial pad button.
Dial the extension number
Enter the target extension number (e.g., 102). Extension numbers are typically 3-5 digits.
Place the call
Press the call button. The call connects directly to the other extension without going through the public phone network.
Finding extension numbers
Check PBX > Extensions for a directory of all extensions in your organization, or ask your administrator.
Caller ID
Your outbound caller ID is controlled by your administrator. It can be set at three levels:
| Level | Precedence |
|---|---|
| Extension-level caller ID | Highest -- overrides everything else |
| Queue-level caller ID | Used when making calls from a queue context |
| System default | Lowest -- used when no specific caller ID is set |
Only phone numbers owned by your organization or caller IDs verified by the provider can be used. Unverified caller IDs are blocked.
Call Controls During a Call
Once connected, you have access to these controls:
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Mute | Mutes your microphone. The other party cannot hear you. |
| Hold | Places the call on hold with hold music. |
| Transfer | Transfers the call to another extension or external number. |
| DTMF Keypad | Opens the keypad for sending tones during a call (e.g., navigating an IVR). |
| Hang Up | Ends the call. |
See Browser Phone for details on each control.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| "No voice token" error | Carrier credentials may not be configured on the server. Contact your administrator. |
| Call fails immediately | The number may be blocked by fraud limits or destination blocking. Check with your admin. |
| No audio after connecting | Verify microphone permissions in your browser. Try a different headset. |
| Echo or feedback | Use a headset instead of speakers. Close other audio applications. |
Every outbound call passes through fraud-limit and blocked-destination checks. If a call is blocked, the dialer shows an error message. Contact your administrator if you believe a number is incorrectly blocked.
