Configuring Routing
Every number needs a routing destination to receive calls. Without routing, inbound calls to that number have nowhere to go.
Open the number detail
Click the number you want to configure from the My Numbers list.
Set the routing destination
Select where inbound calls should be routed:
Destination Description Extension Ring a specific agent's extension IVR Menu Present caller with menu options Queue Send to a call queue Ring Group Ring a group of extensions Call Flow Enter a visual routing flow Voicemail Go directly to voicemail External Number Forward to an outside phone number Save the routing
Click Save. Routing changes take effect immediately for the next incoming call.
For complex routing logic (time-based routing, multi-level IVR), point the number at a Call Flow rather than a single destination. Call Flows give you visual control over the entire call path.
Caller ID
Numbers assigned to your account can be used as outbound caller IDs. When an agent places an outbound call, the recipient sees one of your assigned numbers rather than a system number.
Caller IDs must be verified before use. The verification process confirms that you own or are authorized to use the number for outbound display.
Number Lifecycle Actions
From the number detail view, you can perform lifecycle actions:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Suspend | Temporarily deactivate the number. Calls to this number will not be routed. The number remains assigned to your account. |
| Reactivate | Re-enable a suspended number. Routing is restored. |
| Release | Permanently release the number. It returns to the provider's inventory and is no longer assigned to your account. |
Releasing a number is permanent. The number returns to the provider's pool and may be reassigned to another client. Any routing, caller ID, or PBX configuration tied to the number is removed. A confirmation step is required before the release is processed.
